Wild otter with crab
This image is one of several I took whilst on a trip to the Western Isles. I was staying in a cottage on the shores of a sea loch on North Uist and this otter could often be found feeding nearby. She frequently caught crabs, a prey species otters prefer to eat on land and so this gave me lots of opportunities to photograph her. As she swam in with the crab I would stalk in behind a suitable rock and wait for her to arrive. Quite often she would land just out of sight behind a rock which was very frustrating but on several occasions I judged it just right and was rewarded with excellent views.
